Routine oral cancer screenings are recommended not only for patients who smoke, but for everyone.
The VELscope® is a tool a dental professional uses to screen your mouth for tissue abnormalities including cancer and pre-cancer. The VELscope® emits a fluorescent light which will cause the soft tissue of the mouth to fluoresce. An abnormal area of tissue will fluoresce differently, alerting the dentist to the area, and may lead to the early detection of a soft tissue abnormality. The VELscope® is a great tool to promote the early detection of an abnormality, and, when used in conjunction with an oral exam, will lead to faster diagnosis, faster treatment and a better outcome for the patient.
